leave是什么意思(Leave的意思)

leave 的本义是“go away from”，也就是“离开”。当然，离开某件东西也意味着把它留在原地：“allow or cause to remain”或者“cause (someone or something) to be in a particular state or position”。
所以，“老鼠离开沉船”和“老鼠把沉船留在身后”意思其实是一样的。

No one left. 如果是这样一个单独的句子，意思应该是“没有人离开”（过去时态）。如果是现在时，那就是“No one leaves.”
如果要表达“没有人留下”，应该是“No one was left.”

“no one left”作为短语时，left 可以被看作以过去分词形式表达的被动语态（省略助动词 be ），作为定语修饰“no one”。比如这段著名的话（原文是德语，作者是Martin Niemöller）：

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

最后一句中的“no one left”就是“没有人（被）留下”，也有人翻译成“No one was left to speak for me.”
